Daf (Frame Drum)

Study one of oldest drums (and instruments) known to the human species and its many uses, from music and improvisation to trance, meditation and healing.

Darbuka / Tabla

Learn one of the most popular drums on the planet in all its glorious contexts, from classical Arabic songs to belly-dance accompaniment, plus exciting solos, tricks and fills to get the crowd on their feet.

Riqq

Dive into the vast world of the riqq, a complex and highly nuanced tambourine form that gives you the power to lead an entire orchestra in the palm of your hand.

Oud (Arabic Lute)

Learn the instrument that Yo-Yo Ma calls ‘the king of instruments.’ Grandfather of the guitar, and predecessor of the European lute, the Arabic oud has a long history of music spanning thousands of years, and miles, around the world.

Violin (Arabic method)

Tuned to GDGD, Arabic violin playing is the more recent innovation since the rebab, as orchestral music reached the Arab world in the early 20th century.

Maqam, Muwashahat and Taqasim

Enjoy special classes focused on specific defining elements of Arabic music, including maqam or Arabic modes, taqasim or the art of Arabic improvisation, and muwashahat, a classic genre of Arabic music featuring unique rhythmic cycles dating back to Al-Andalus.

  • Membership lasts 1 year, with the option of paying every 4 months, or annually for a discount. Members who wish to continue their membership from year to year can lock in their rate, avoiding any annual increases, and will enjoy tailored courses that advance as they do.

  • Yes! There is a mix of beginner-friendly and advanced material for all members to enjoy. Classes are specifically designed to match the collective level of the class, ensuring progress for all students. As the year continues, the material will continue to advance. Students with questions can utilize the resource of the community chat, or chat 1-1 with the instructor.

  • As this is a program based on year-long coursework, the material will advance throughout the year. The courses are ideal for amateur and trained musicians alike who seek a well-rounded understanding of Arabic rhythm and music.

  • Classes are hosted on Zoom. Be sure to turn your settings to 'original sound.' Classes will be recorded and shared with all students, so you will never miss a class.

  • Each membership is a commitment of minimum 1 year and is non-refundable. Members paying in 4-month installments are equally committed to one full year of membership, and are responsible for any remaining yearly dues. All members will receive recordings of all classes to minimize the risk of missing important material.

  • Each singular online group class is $75 and can be purchased here. Conversely, memberships are between $75-$175 for the entire month, offering 7-15 classes per month.
